During the design phase of the SC20 we considered to lift the keel from the mast, but we were concerned about the weight on the free-standing mast. It turned out that the mast is stiff enough.Here are the pictures of the new keel lifting system which is now supplied on all new boats, replacing the aluminum lifting boom.This can also be retro fitted to existing SC20's.

All new SC20's come with:

1) The fore-stay fitting is reinforced with a bolt through the mast.

2) The trapeze wires have a stainless steel ring tied to them at the correct height.

3 )The lifting tackle is the same as before.

4) The trapeze wires are 4mm instead of 3mm just in case....

To retro fit this keel lifting system use the following steps:

1) Drill a 5.5mm hole through the forestay fitting for a 5mm bolt for extra safety. Put it off center to avoid the sail track. Start the drilling from behind the mast and drill forward through the forestay fitting. Start with a 3mm drill bit and then go up in size. Use some sealant when you insert the bolt to prevent/reduce corrosion stains with the carbon fiber (rust). Stainless steel is not stainless if it touches carbon fiber.

2) Tie one or two stainless steel rings to the hiking straps at the right height to lift the keel all the way up.

3) Replace the hiking straps (3mm to 4mm) for extra safety.

4) You can use the same lifting tackles.

He can easily make those modifications with a few small parts from a boat store.
